2009 in Review, Looking back at Fashionable Tokyo
2009のレビュー。お洒落な日本の一年を振り返る

There were two leaders that really stood out in fashion in Japan this year, and it's hard not to call a tie.
First, this was definitely the year of Comme des Garcons. Between the H&M collaboration (which actually was released in Nov of last year, but buzz carried to the next and elevated their presence worldwide exponentially), then on to their Magazine Alive! shop collabo with Vogue Nippon in Aoyama, the BLACK fast-fashion line, a gallery "SIX" that opened in Osaka, the beatles bag and barbie doll collaborations, and Tavi brouhaha.... the list just goes on an on...
2009年を振り返ってみると、いったいどのブランドが2009年を象徴していたか‥。おそらく、２つのブランドだと思う。
１つは、やっぱりギャルソン。2008年末の H＆M とのコラボに始まり、ＶＯＧＵＥとのショップ開店、大阪でのギャラリーをオープン、BLACK 低価格ラインのスタート、表参道のGYREビルのエディットショップのオープン、そして、ビートルズとバービーのコラボ商品。あげればきりがないほど、話題が尽きない。

consolation prize: Uniqlo, who shocked us all out of our fashionable pants when they hired Jil Sander to head up the design of not just a capsule collection, but the whole entire freakin' company. Owner Yanai is the richest man in Japan, opened a shop in Paris, and plans to take over the world. That last one, not joking.
それともう１つが、ユニクロ。ジルサンダーがチーフデザイナーにを就任。彼女の手によるモダンで高質ながらも低価格なラインも登場し、すぐに完売という圧殺的に人気。その上、社長の柳井さんは日本を代表する金持ちになったし、パリに大型店もオープンしたし、これからグローバル的な進出を目指すユニクロから目が離せない。

Exhibitions:
There were some great exhibitions this year, including a slew at the diesel gallery in aoyama, the `bones` exhibit at 21_21 Design Sight, Antwerp +6 at the Opera City gallery, and Luxury in Fashion Reconsidered at the Muesum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (which goes until Jan 17!)
2009年雑ニュースその⑤：
美術館などでの展示会・展覧会。
ディーゼルギャラリーにはかっこいい作品が数多く並んだ。オペラシティギャラリーでは「アントワープ＋６」、21_21 Design Sight では「骨」、東京現代美術館では「ラグジュアリーの歴史を探る展示」など、実りあるアートの1年だった。

Finally, fashion's night out which seemed to be a big hit (although I was in New York for the biggie). A huge block party in Aoyama sounds right by me.
最後に、ファッション業界人も、ファッション好きな人々も、青山地域も大フィーバーだったファッションズ・ナイト・アウト。2009年9月にＶＯＧＵＥ主催で行われたイベントで、今年も開催するらしい。私はニューヨークの方に参加したが、今年は日本のイベントに参加してみたい。
